North Carolina Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry recognized Gate Precast‘s Oxford, N.C,, facility as a safety leader in North Carolina, presenting it with dual safety awards.
Berry presented Gate with the Silver Award for realizing injury rates 50% below industry average (for the third consecutive year) and an award for achieving 2 million manhours without a lost time accident during a special ceremony at Vance-Granville Community College in Creedmoor, N.C. Gate Human Resources and Safety Manager Bob Madison, along with Gate’s John Labone and Art Vasquez, accepted the awards on Gate’s behalf.
“These awards were accomplished through teamwork, dedication and focus on safety and health by all employees at the Oxford site,” Madison says. To date, the plant has worked more than 2.5 million hours without a lost time accident and its injury rate is 64% below the industry average. The plant is certified as a Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program facility.
“I am extremely proud of our employees’ continued efforts in making Gate Precast Co. a safe place to work,” says Gate Vice President and Oxford Operations Manager Travis Fox.
The Oxford facility services projects in North and South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and New York, and began operations in 1986 as a producer of architectural precast and pre-stressed hollow core slabs. Gate Precast acquired the facility in 1995, introducing state-of-the-art improvements. The facility employs 165 and is situated on 41 acres with 75,000 square feet of production area. Gate facilities in Winchester, KY, and Ashland City, Tenn., have also maintained SHARP status for over five years.
