If you’re having trouble finding qualified concrete polishers, consider sending promising employees to Florida this winter for some one-on-one training.
Xtreme Polishing Systems launched Polished Concrete University in January 2016 to standardize the definitions of mechanical and topical polished concrete.
“We aim to tie these terms to a scope of work that ensures architects, designers, and tradesmen can educate the building owner or client on what best fits their situation,” says Owner Christopher Lavin. The Pompano Beach, Fla., company has manufactured and distributed polishing equipment and tooling for more than 25 years.
The university provides practical resources such as educational articles, operational forms, and check lists; and holds a five-day class one week every month, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 6 pm. There, attendees get hands-on experience with equipment and products for overlays and epoxies, color, repair and restoration, edges and joints, densifiers, and sealers.
If you attended the Concrete Polishing and Staining Conference and Expo Oct. 20 through 22 in Milwaukee, you can get the five-day course for $750 — half the usual $1,500 fee.
Upcoming classes:
- Nov. 7 through 11
- Dec. 12 through 16
