If you work with mineral admixtures for concrete and cement, and most concrete mixes these days use some supplementary cementitious materials or fillers, you should consider the new book from CRC Press, Cement and Concrete Mineral Admixtures by Mustafa Tokyay. Clearly written and incredibly comprehensive, this book covers the various materials (like fly ash, blast furnace slag, and silica fume) then discusses the impact of each on the workability of fresh concrete and the properties of hardened concrete. Included is a chapter on proportioning concretes that use mineral admixtures. I especially like the terminology Tokyay uses to clearly define this important group of materials: any material added to concrete other than aggregate, cement, water, and fiber reinforcement is an admixture; mineral admixtures are “finely ground insoluble mineral matter added to concrete in large amounts.” This book is available through the CRC Press.
