Judges don't want to see only polished concrete in new construction. They often are more impressed by rehabilitation and restoration projects that, like this former supermarket, turn existing concrete into a highly serviceable surface for another purpose.

Every summer, we ask you to think about what project (or projects) to submit to our annual Polished Concrete Awards program. The entry deadline isn’t until fall; but because the process involves hunting up high-resolution photos and answering questions, we want to give you plenty of time to put your team’s best foot forward. We often write cover stories about winners over the next year in addition to posting them online, explaining in more detail products and processes the contractor deployed to overcome the project’s unique challenges. This year, we’ll be interested in hearing if, and how, federal silica dust regulations affected project processes (and profits).

We’re keeping the same seven categories as last year and, as always, will ask our readers to choose their favorite (last year it was a school floor done by Elegant Concrete Polishing of New Haven, Connecticut). Our Readers’ Choice award is like the Industry Choice designation in World of Concrete’s Most Innovative Products (MIP) awards program, where attendees vote for the exhibitor whose wares they like best.

Also like MIP, every Polished Concrete Awards entry will be included in Concrete Construction’s e-newsletter at some point. No additional charge! So click here for contest details and to submit entries. We look forward to seeing what you’ve done over the last year!
