Check Out This Award-Winning Roundabout

Depending on who you talk to, roundabouts are the wave of the future in the U.S. or a dangerous fad. I don’t know; it’s not for me to decide.

But I DO think this project, the second roundabout installed by the City of Santa Cruz, Calif., is gorgeous. Instead of traffic signs, dolphins made of shells, sea glass, and aquarium sand lead drivers through the former four-way stop. Pedestrian crosswalks mimic exposed oceanfront.

The contractor made this video, which won first place in a new category — Project Video — in the Decorative Concrete Council awards held annually by the American Society of Concrete Contractors. Thought you’d enjoy watching it.
