Pavement protection

Three components that will make or break your crew’s sealcoating productivity.

Three application methods

After pump design, the next decision regards application method: spray, squeegee, or both. Each has its advantages, depending on the job and surface type.

Spraying is faster than applying sealcoat by squeegee and works better on smooth surfaces because it leaves a more uniform finish.

However, squeegeeing is gaining in popularity because it applies more material for a seal that lasts longer. It’s harder to spread sealer evenly and achieve a smooth finish by squeegee versus sprayer. The method works best for rough or porous surfaces because it packs material into crevices, creating a stronger bond with the pavement.

If you don’t want to choose between the two, a dual applicator provides the best of both worlds: spray or squeegee depending on the job.

A dual applicator machine also can be used to apply one coat with a squeegee to form a strong bond and then spray on a second coat for a uniform finish. The process is more expensive and takes more time, but the results last 40% longer than squeegee alone or a double-spray application.
