Pothole patcher

With its insulated electric-heated hopper and thermostat, the FP5 Flameless Pothole Patcher reduces material waste while keeping asphalt pliant and at a constant temperature. The damaged area is first removed and squared off with the pavement breaker. Then the air and tack wand blows out any remaining debris and applies the tack coating. The material chute delivers fresh, hot asphalt and consolidates the material evenly with existing pavement. Bergkamp Inc. www.bergkampinc.com.

Spray patcher

One person can control all patching functions from inside the cab with the RA-300 spray patcher. This spray-injection system allows patching on the go with no need for auxiliary power. The operator uses joystick control to extend and retract the patching boom. The three-stage telescoping aggregate delivery tube and emulsion hose take-up reel provide a wide patching range with minimal maintenance. Patching can be done in less than a minute. Tack coat applicator

The trailer-mounted Tack Kettle heats and applies bituminous emulsions and tack coats. Its staggered dual flue design offers even, energy-efficient heating. Other features include a large solvent/flush tank and 36332-in. maintenance hatch for speedy cleanup, and a 50-ft. retractable material hose with lightweight spray wand. Two models are available: 500-gal. and 250-gal. Cimline Inc. www.cimline.com.

Structural geogrid system

The Spectra roadway improvement system combines Tensar Biaxial (BX) and Uniaxial (UX) geogrids with crushed aggregate and/or granular fill to improve subgrade and base course performance. It’s used beneath roadways, parking lots, and more to allow heavy construction on sites with weak soils, eliminating all or most foundation and/or soil stabilization work. Geogrids are made from either polyethylene, to resist elongation; or from polypropylene or copolymers, to resist high, short-term dynamic loads and moderate loads over longer time periods. Custom roller

Featuring 20-, 30-, and 45- degree troughing idlers (available in 7- and 8-in. diameters), each CEMA F idler has a 3000-lb. load rating based on a minimum L10 life of 60,000 hours at 500 rpm. The idlers are available with 36- to 96-in. belt widths. Superior Industries. www.superior-ind.com.

Paving admixture

Navitas 33 rheology-controlling admixture acts as a lubricant, improving response to vibration and enhancing consolidation, extrusion, and final surface appearance. Ideal for use in mainline concrete paving, low-slump concrete, curb and gutter, and median barriers, the admixture lowers the yield stress—meaning less force is required to initiate flow in the concrete—without affecting the viscosity. Versatile paver

The Titan 8820 is a 19.3-ton paver designed for placing any kind of wearing, binder, and base course material in large paving widths and thicknesses. Powered by a 243-hp Deutz diesel engine, the paver can install roller-compacted concrete, cement-treated base, nontreated base, stone, and soil cement. Also, the paver can accommodate a variety of screeds, including fixed and hydraulically extendable screeds. Volvo Construction Equipment. www.volvoce.com.

Small laser-guided screed

The Mini Screed offers laser-controlled accuracy in a unit small enough to fit into the bed of a pickup truck. Weighing 352 lbs. and having a 6-ft. head, the machine cuts the concrete to a finished grade, screeds it flat, and vibrates it in a single pass. Somero Enterprises. www.somero.com.

Handheld construction camera

iBeam facilitates communication between a jobsite and offsite personnel. It transmits live images from the heart of the project to viewers located anywhere in the world, so situations can be clearly understood, possible solutions can be discussed, and resolutions can be documented—without travel or costly delays. Project managers find it speeds up responses to information requests and saves significant amounts of time (and travel expense) from not having to repeatedly visit the jobsite. iBeam Systems Inc. www.ibeamsystems.com.

Hammer drill/driver

The innovative, lightweight, and well-balanced SFH 144-A delivers reliable power and durability. With CPC lithium-ion battery technology, you get the power of most 18 V tools with the weight of many 12 V tools. With all-metal gears, the powerful, highly efficient motor delivers long-lasting power with up to 619 in.-lbs. of torque. The drop-resistant, glass-fiber-reinforced casing can withstand even the toughest jobsite conditions. Hilti. www.us.hilti.com.
