ProBuild, 84 Lumber and Foxworth-Galbraith Lumber all have closed facilities in recent weeks, a number of reports indicate.
84 Lumber shut facilities in Falls Creek (near Erie), DuBois and Mount Pocono, Pa.; Vineland, N.J.; Crystal Lake, Ill.; and west Houston, Texas, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazettereported Friday, March 13.
Recently, 84 revealed that total sales for 2008 dropped by $1 billion from the previous year, to $2.1 billion. The Eighty Four, Pa.-based dealer had sales of $3.1 billion in 2007 and $3.92 billion in 2006. With the latest closures, the company has shuttered 196 locations in the past 2-1/2 years. It now has 304 yards and six component plants with about 4,750 employees.
Also on Friday, ProBuild confirmed it had closed a contractor yard in Hamilton, Mont., as of March 12. The facility has been consolidated with one in Missoula, about 50 miles north, a ProBuild spokesperson said. Three of Hamilton’s six employees will work in Missouli while the other three will leave the company. Last month, Denver-based ProBuild confirmed to a Montana news service that it had laid off some employees at its yard in Butte, but wouldn’t say how many people were affected.
Dallas-based Foxworth-Galbraith confirmed to ProSales that the company recently closed its facility in Nogales, Ariz., and shuttered last May a facility in Cottonwood, Ariz. In addition, it appears this year to have closed an office in Yuma, Ariz., and combined operations with another location in the city.
