As professional dealers, you’ve probably thought a lot about what to carry in your store to maximize sales, but are you organizing based on traditional retail principles? Do it Best Corp. recently completed a major planogram overhaul, looking at sales data, warehouse information, and input from member-owners and vendors to update how best to organize its members stores, and found that if pros are your customers, it might be time to buck traditional trends and change your store up. The program led to an overhaul of the Do it Best planogram, and was introduced at their conference last month. Below are photos of the mock-up store from that event, followed by some specific planogram tips.

Pros are often buying smaller things in bulk, but may need a refill or be able to shop around and test out different options. Keeping all of the quantity options near one-another improves shoppability and reduces questions asking for bulk or single purchases.

Do it Best found that pros were also interested in the breadth of national brands, thus showcasing greater product depth from each manfucturer, greater than typical hardware stores.

Ladders are awkward to display and have multiple sizes that contractors will need. This rack allows for more examples to be out on the floor and quickly distinguishes between the product range.

With greater product choice also comes the challenge of actually fitting all those products in the store. Certain elements of the planogram were designed with maximizing all the space available.

The new planogram is also optimized to show product versatility, helping pros in a time crunch find the right product for the right job.

How your store is organized matters. Whether you’re a small dealer or part of a larger chain, the planogram can be an important tool to help maximize sales for you, and reduce headaches for your customers.
