Alexander Lumber is opening a new lumberyard in Iowa City, Iowa. The building materials location will include a retail sales facility, a warehouse, and a large lumber shed to better serve the area’s industry professionals.

“We shifted our brand strategy in early 2019, and the new Iowa City location represents what we can do as a more nimble, pro-focused organization,” Russ Kathrein, Alexander Lumber president and CEO, said in a statement. “As a company, we have been helping build communities for 128 years, and we’re pleased to be able to do the same in the greater Iowa City area.”

Brian Ahrendsen will serve as the Iowa City location’s general manager. The Illinois-based company has had a presence in Iowa City since it acquired Nagle Lumber in 2016. The company subsequently opened an interior showroom and design center in Iowa City in 2017.

Family-owned Alexander Lumber has been active in the industry since 1891 and has dozens of locations and two truss plants across Illinois, southeastern Wisconsin, and eastern Iowa.
