Beginning in January, 2020, Hancock Lumber CFO Paul Wainman will also become the company’s president. Wainman will continue his work as CFO while becoming the 8th person to serve as president of the Casco, Maine-based dealer. Current president Kevin Hancock will continue to serve as CEO and chairman of the company in 2020.

Wainman joined Hancock in 2016 and has worked directly with every business unit in the company, developing plans, strategy, and capital reinvestments. Wainman previously served as the president of Kleinfeld Paper and William Arthur. Naming Wainman president is part of an alteration of overall company culture and direction at Hancock Lumber, according to Kevin Hancock.

“As an executive team we have, for years, made the important decisions collaboratively and collectively. In our work we don’t get hung up on titles. We each know our roles and we just help each other and try to make the best possible decisions for the future of the company,” Hancock said in a memo to company employees.

The executive change is the latest move in a dynamic year for Hancock Lumber. The dealer moved into a new corporate headquarters in May and broke ground on its 10th lumberyard and kitchen design showroom in Saco, Maine, in August.

Family-owned Hancock Lumber was established in 1848 and operates a timberland company, a sawmill division, and a network of lumberyards, kitchen design showrooms, and a truss and wall panel manufacturing facility. The dealer ranked 37th on the 2019 ProSales 100 and generated $179.9 million in sales during 2018. Around 95% of the company’s sales are made directly to professional customers.
