84 Lumber has donated more than $50,000 worth of building supplies to the Bahamas to assist ongoing relief efforts in the aftermath of September’s Hurricane Dorian. A barge, recently departed from Miami, was loaded with enough plywood, roofing paper, and 2×4’s to help rebuild 100 damaged roofs.
84 Lumber’s contributions are part of a larger relief effort coordinated by Florida non-profit Global Empowerment Mission. The effort thus far has collected more than five million pounds of aid destined for the affected islands since the storm struck in September.
84 Lumber facilitated the most recent donation from its West Palm Beach, Fla., branch, according to a news release. A total of 24 bundles of 5/8” plywood and roofing paper were donated by the branch to help rebuild homes and buildings.
“After witnessing the level of destruction on the Bahamas, we knew that we could make a difference to help put roofs back over the heads of people who so desperately needed assistance,” Nick Nicosia, Caribbean territory manager for 84 Lumber, said in a public statement. “Our West Palm Beach store moved quickly to get these needed supplies out of the store and down to Miami so that construction can begin in a matter of days. The materials donated will help hundreds of families to have a shelter from the elements.”
84 Lumber operates approximately 250 stores, component manufacturing plants, custom door shops, custom millwork shops, and engineered wood product centers in more than 30 states. The Eighty Four, Pa.–based dealer also offers turnkey installation services for framing, insulation, siding, windows, decking, and drywall. The company ranked fourth on the 2019 ProSales 100, generating $3.86 billion in sales in 2018.
