TAL Holdings, a nine-store chain of retail building material centers in Oregon and Washington, acquired the assets of Lake Chelan Building Supply in Mason, Wash., and Chelan, Wash. After a transition period, Lake Chelan Building Supply will begin operations as part of the TAL family of businesses on March 30, 2020.

Family-owned Lake Chelan Building Supply was founded in 1979 and is a full-service building material supplier in the greater Lake Chelan market. The company operates full-service lumberyards service professional builders and retail customers from two locations in Washington. According to TAL, both companies share basic principles, including building honest, fair, and ethical relationships with customers.

“This acquisition is the right addition to our company. We have an opportunity to strengthen our market share in greater Lake Chelan with the addition of LCBS,” TAL CEO David Dittmer said in a public statement. “We are anxious to expand our footprint in this growing market.”

TAL currently operates a branch in the Chelan market under the Marson and Marson brand name. According to TAL, the Marson and Marson location was not adequate to support the business potential of the market. After exploring the possibility of building a new facility in Chelan, the opportunity to join forces with Lake Chelan Building Supply presented itself to TAL Holdings, according to the company. The Marson and Marson Chelan, Wash., location will close over the next four months with employees and products transferred to the Lake Chelan Building Supply location in the market.

“Lake Chelan Building Supply has a strong employee group,” Dittmer said. “Their years of experience in our industry, coupled with the expertise of the Marson and Marson team in Chelan, make us the place to go for building solutions for both the consumer and the contractor.”

Prior to the acquisition, Vancouver, Wash.-based TAL Holdings had four operating divisions: Tum-A-Lum Lumber, Marson and Marson Lumber, Browne’s Home Center, and Gerretsen Building Supply. TAL Holdings acquired Gerretsen Building Supply in January 2019. Tum-A-Lum Lumber serves the Hood Driver, The Dalles, and Pendleton markets in Oregon; Marson and Marson serves the Leavenworth, Wenatchee, and Cle Elum markets in Washington in addition to Chelan, Browne’s Home Center serves the San Juan Islands of Washington; and Gerretsen Building Supply serves the Roseburg, Ore., market.
