Building Industry Partners (BIP) welcomed Jeff Cook as an operating partner. Cook is a longtime building products manufacturing and distribution business leader as well as a former BIP portfolio company president.

Cook joins BIP from Fencing Supply Group (FSG), a wholesale fencing and outdoor living distribution platform in the U.S., where he served as executive vice president of mergers and acquisitions and greenfields.

“We couldn’t be more excited to work with Jeff again. This is a homecoming,” BIP founder and managing partner Matt Ogden said in a news release. “Jeff has strong roots in the BIP family. We’ve always shared our ‘people-focused’ values; the building industry runs in his veins; and Jeff’s been an exceptional visionary, business leader, market and brand builder, and equity-value creator throughout his career.”

In his previous stint with BIP, Cook served as the leader of portfolio company Binford Supply, where he facilitated a leadership retirement transition, opened four green field locations in four years, and organically grew the business three times in revenue and five times in EBITDA, according to Ogden.

Prior to joining Binford Supply, Cook had a role in the creation of Alta Forest Products, a manufacturer of wood fence boards and Western Red Cedar wood products, serving as vice president. In 2018, Cook was part of the management team that successfully sold the company to ITOCHU.

“Jeff’s reputation and track record in the building industry are second to none. We are excited to have him back on the BIP team and are looking forward to adding to his experience and capabilities to our businesses’ growth efforts,” BIP partner Patrick Mascia said.

Over the past decade, BIP has been involved in the formation of several leading industry players, including US LBM, Kodiak Building Partners, Homewood Holdings, U.S. Fence Solutions/Binford Supply, United Cabinet Holdings, and Rugby Architectural Building Products.

BIP also founded Southeast Building Supply Interests in July 2021 with the acquisition of Warner Robins Building Supply, Henson Building Materials, and Mountain Building Supply. Earlier in July, BIP founded four-unit, California-based LBM platform West Coast Lumber.
