2016 ProSales 100 Preview: Dealers’ Growth Plans

Third in a series: New home construction tops the list

Data from the 2016 ProSales 100 Survey on Dealers' Growth Plans for this year.

Ask a ProSales 100 dealer to list which group it most expects to produce sales growth this year, and the answer is clear: It’s single-family new-home builders. That’s according to the 2016 ProSales 100 survey, the results of which will be announced in early May.

Seventy-four percent of the dealers answering the question listed single-family new-home construction as an area in which they expected sales growth in 2016. Remodelers finished second on the expectations list, with 58% of respondents forecasting increased sales from the sector, and multifamily builders were rated third most likely to generate higher sales, at 53%.

In contrast, installed sales and component manufacturing operations were viewed far less often as a source of increased sales. This appears to be partly due to the labor shortages that are restricting growth.

Fewer than one out of 20 dealers expected declines in sales from any group. The biggest was retail, at 5%.
