The ProSales 100’s best sales year ever was $43.9 billion, set in 2006. Nearly a decade later, 2015’s $41.74 billion pushes us 95% of the way toward matching that record. Organic growth played a role, but so did a huge number of mergers and acquisitions last year. Those deals mean the top 10 companies figured in nearly seven out of 10 dollars of goods sold in 2015.

Annual changes in ProSales 100 total sales and in U.S. housing starts
With 2015’s strong numbers at their back, dealers are showing the greatest confidence in new-home construction as a growth engine this year, with remodeling not far behind. There’s good reason for making those bets; housing starts are widely pegged as being only about 75% of “normal,” while the remodeling business is setting records.
