While we were evaluating companies for our 2020 Dealer of the Year award, one of the things that piqued our interest in Hammond Lumber Company was its 54% annual revenue growth in 2018. To be fair, this was largely due to its acquisition of EBS Building Supplies, which generated more than $80 million in revenue in 2017. But that Hammond was even in a position to acquire a company roughly half its size is very impressive. The company must have been doing some thing or things right, so we needed to investigate.
Not surprisingly, we found quite a bit, including ways in which the company listens and responds to its employees and customers, its investments in new enterprise software, and the creation of an award-winning safety program. We had so much to cover that we couldn’t fit the company’s philanthropic efforts into the story, such as its companywide fundraising effort to support Wreaths Across America. All of these efforts solidified our belief that Hammond was very deserving of this high honor.
Similarly impressive are the members of our 2020 Four Under 40 class. Some of them received multiple nominations. One is a market president. Another, Madison Wood sales manager Kari Gaviria, has done so much for her company that she might have been selected for only accomplishing half of her achievements. And another Four Under 40 member is already the president and chief operating officer of a multimillion-dollar dealer.
When I see all of the hard work that goes into the success of our Dealer of Year and Four Under 40 class, I’m pleased that we offer awards to recognize it. They truly deserve their success and the recognition that goes with it. Congratulations to all of them.
