Baby barn swallow being fed

Our latest yard pet comes courtesy of Bill Bossman, a veteran birder and blogger who spotted a baby barn swallow next to the stone paving display at a ProBuild yard in Pierre, S.D. As he reports in his blog, he waited a bit for the swallow’s mother. “Sure enough, in a few seconds a blue streak came past, pausing briefly above the young bird,” he wrote. “…The adult bird did not even land. The food exchange was an entirely aerial feat.” And yes, after he took the picture, he shopped a while at ProBuild.
