Why Work at Dixie? When Dixie Lumber co-owner C.E. Lawton decided to make T-shirts that promoted why the yard was one of the best places to work in Easley, S.C., he turned to the company’s employees for help, holding a contest to see who could come up with the best “Top 10” list of reasons. Here’s some of what they had to say:

  • “I work at Dixie because the owners let you run with any suggestion or idea that involves potential benefits for the business. I enjoy the independence in which we conduct our days,” William Herbert, receiving manager.
  • “I feel like I am a part of what is happening here. We are working for people who are available, not sending orders from somewhere else,” Steve Coleman, inside salesperson.
  • “Dixie is the best place to work because I like being treated like a person and not a number,” Chubby Cater, store manager.
  • “The people we have to deal with on a day-to-day basis (customers as well as suppliers) have so much respect for Dixie Lumber that it makes me proud to be an employee. The Christian atmosphere that exists at Dixie is found almost nowhere else,” Tommy Snelson, EWP specialist.
  • “I feel that I contribute a lot to Dixie by doing my job the best I can. I enjoy meeting the customers and being able to help most of them,” Joyce Bradford, bookkeeper.
  • “If there is a problem, we can discuss it. The employees really care about each other and Dixie,” Wayne Vosburg, truck driver.
