Here’s an alternative to asking your drivers to take photos of the loads they deliver to jobsites: Give your yard manager a smart phone to snap pictures of the delivery trucks just before they head out. City Lumber in Huntsville, Ala., keeps track of things by including in its photos a whiteboard on which there’s written the number of each delivery ticket aboard the load. Sales manager Bill Nunley says that when a customer calls in about missing goods, the whiteboard shot provides a quick clue as to where to find the materials. Odds are, they’re at one of the trip’s other dropoff points.
