84 Lumber reopened its Greenwood, Ind., location after the store’s original warehouse was damaged by a destructive fire last year. The dealer has been in the Greenwood community since 1970 and the store services the greater Indianapolis area. 84 Lumber said despite the fire damage, the Greenwood location continued serving customers through a temporary office trailer and the company’s nearby truss plant facility in Franklin, Ind.
“Our people have been incredibly resilient over the last year, taking care of customers even through the fire, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the record-high demands the building industry has faced over the last year,” 84 Lumber area manager Kevin Means said in a news release. “I’m so proud of our team in Greenwood. They never stopped. On the day of the fire, we shipped our customers’ loads to the job sites, going above and beyond to ensure our customers’ needs were met.”
The location’s main facility was damaged by a fire on June 5, 2020, though no injuries were reported. The new Greenwood store has a similar footprint to the original building, according to 84 Lumber.
In addition to the reopening of the Greenwood facility, 84 Lumber has been engaged in a steady expansion plan over the past year and a half. The dealer opened a truss plants in Mansfield, Ohio, in August 2020, in Richmond, Va. in February 2021, and in Statesville, N.C. in July 2021, a door and engineered wood products center in Greenville, S.C., in June 2020, a door shop in Dallas in December 2020, and an Andersen Windows & Doors showroom in Rockville, Md. in January. The dealer plans to open an already constructed store in Dayton, Ohio. 84 Lumber also plans to expand into Stockton, Calif., Boise, Idaho, and Detroit, Mich., and open an additional truss plant in central Florida.
Eighty Four, Pa.-based 84 Lumber was the fourth largest company on the 2020 ProSales 100. The dealer operates nearly 250 stores, component manufacturing plants, custom door shops, custom millwork shops, and engineered wood product centers in more than 30 states.
