Boise Cascade’s Building Materials Distribution (BMD) division announced the expansion of its distribution capacity in two markets: Walterboro, S.C., and Hondo, Texas. The company acquired 45 acres in Walterboro, S.C., with plans to build a new distribution facility and also acquired a 34-acre land parcel in Hondo, Texas, for another new distribution facility.
“Consistent with our strategy, these investments demonstrate our commitment to our customers and supplier partners in several high-growth markets,” Jeff Strom, BMD executive vice president, said in a news release. “We are thrilled to increase our diversification of product offerings. This will allow us to expand in engineered wood products, leading brands of general line building materials, as well as lumber and panel products.”
The land in Walterboro is located 45 miles west of Charleston, S.C., and the future distribution center will be Boise Cascade’s first in the state. The location is rail-served and will help serve customers in Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and Columbia, as well as Savannah, Ga., according to Boise Cascade. The company’s BMD division currently serves these markets through facilities in Greensboro, N.C., and Atlanta.
The Hondo, Texas, land is 40 miles west of San Antonio and the Hondo distribution center will be Boise Cascade’s third in the state of Texas, along with door shops in Houston and Dallas. The property is raile-served and will help service customers in Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and the Rio Grande Valley.
“We are very excited to expand our footprint into these markets,” Jim Wickham, vice president of eastern operations, said. “This will help us grow in these geographies and also provide deeper penetration in the local market for the facilities that are currently serving these areas, allowing us to be closer to our customers.”
Boise, Idaho-based Boise Cascade is a producer of engineered wood products and plywood and a wholesale distributor of building products.
