r.k. Miles is acquiring the assets of four-unit Vermont dealer Allen Lumber. Family-owned Allen Lumber has served northeast Vermont since 1888 from its locations in Barre, Vt., Montpelier, Vt., Waitsfield, Vt., and St. Johnsbury, Vt.
“r.k. Miles has a solid reputation as a reliable and trustworthy building materials supplier in Vermont and Massachusetts. We are happy that they will continue our family’s legacy to provide the best products and services our customers have grown to expect,” Steve Allen, fifth-generation owner and president of Allen Lumber, said in a prepared statement. “We are looking forward to working with Joe and his crew through a successful transition.”
Joe Miles, r.k. Miles president, said the acquisition will help the company serve its north-central Vermont customer base with improved logistics and convenient pick-up locations. Miles said the companies have similar business philosophies, which he maintains will make the acquisition a “good fit” for customers and employees. Preparation of the transaction is currently underway and the sale is expected to take place on March 31.
Manchester, Vt.-based r.k. Miles supplies lumber, building materials, and home goods to communities in Vermont and western Massachusetts. With the acquisition of Allen Lumber, the family-owned company has 10 locations across Vermont and Massachusetts.
