Building materials dealer 84 Lumber donated $10,000 to Samaritan’s Purse, an international disaster relief organization, to help with tornado clean-up in the greater Chattanooga, Tenn., area. An E3 tornado touched down on April 12, 2020 in the area while residents were under coronavirus-enforced shelter-in-place orders.

In the aftermath of the tornado, many residents, including associates from the 84 Lumber store in the area and volunteers from Samaritan’s Purse, worked to navigate the cleaning up, according to the dealer.

“If there’s one thing we’ve learned so far this year, it’s the importance of home,” Mark Ingersoll, Tennessee and Georgia area manager for 84 Lumber, said in a news release. “At 84 Lumber, we’re in the business of building homes, so after last month’s tornado, we immediately looked for ways to help our neighbors clean up and rebuild. We saw firsthand the good work that Samaritan’s Purse has been doing in the area and we knew that we wanted to support them.”

Samaritan’s Purse has already helped 264 families in Chattanooga with debris clean up, tarping, and tree removal with the help of 755 volunteers, according to the organization. Eighty Four, Pa.-based 84 Lumber recently donated $100,000 to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank for coronavirus relief efforts. 84 Lumber was the fourth largest company on the recently released 2020 ProSales 100. The dealer operates more than 260 stores, components manufacturing plants, custom door shops, custom millwork shops, and engineered wood product centers in more than 30 states.
