As part of its expansion plans to fill demand for engineered and manufactured wood products across the country, 84 Lumber announced the opening of its newest dedicated truss plant in Statesville, N.C. The component plant will primarily manufacture roof trusses and floor trusses.
The 34,000-square-foot plant is fully automated and outfitted with computerized saws, a trackless gantry system, laser protection equipment, and the latest design software, according to 84 Lumber. The facility opened at the end of June with 15 associates and the dealer plans to double employment at the plant by the end of 2021.
“With this new truss plant, we will now be able to fill the need for engineered and manufactured wood products across the Charlotte metropolitan area,” Rory O’Neill, area manager for 84 Lumber Components, said in a news release. “The facility will allow us to grow and strengthen our partnerships with new and existing customers.”
84 Lumber has invested substantially in opening new facilities dedicated to component manufacturing and upgrading equipment at existing locations over the past five years to improve component manufacturing capacity, according to the dealer. 84 Lumber said it expects to create component facilities within several planned new stores to be opening in the future.
“In addition to investing in state-of-the-art equipment, we also separate ourselves from competition by investing in our people here at 84 Lumber,” O’Neill said. “The company’s extensive training program allows people, like myself, to grow from an entry-level position to being responsible for an entire store to managing an entire region.”
The Statesville facility opening continues a pattern of expansion in 2020 and planned expansion into 2021. 84 Lumber opened a truss plants in Mansfield, Ohio, in August 2020, and in Richmond, Va. in February 2021, a door and engineered wood products center in Greenville, S.C., in June 2020, a door shop in Dallas in December 2020, and an Andersen Windows & Doors showroom in Rockville, Md. in January. The dealer plans to open an already constructed store in Dayton, Ohio. 84 Lumber also plans to expand into Stockton, Calif., Boise, Idaho, and Detroit, Mich., and open an additional truss plant in central Florida.
Eighty Four, Pa.-based 84 Lumber was the fourth largest company on the 2020 ProSales 100. The dealer operates nearly 250 stores, component manufacturing plants, custom door shops, custom millwork shops, and engineered wood product centers in more than 30 states.
