In conjunction with its 100th anniversary, the West Coast Lumber and Building Material Association (WCLBMA) simultaneously looked back and looked forward during its annual convention Nov. 9-10 with the release of a new book and the selection of officers for the 2017-2018 term.

The Legacy of Lumber follows the history of logging and lumber production in the United States from colonial times, with particular emphasis on California. For instance, it was at a sawmill where gold was discovered in 1848.

After delivering that history, the bulk of The Legacy of Lumber chronicles the the stories of roughly 60 dealers in the Golden State. The group includes several ProSales 100 members as well as companies featured in PROSALES over the years.

“This is an inspiring and entertaining history of this important American industry and was a joy to research and write,” said Dunham, the WCLBMA’s executive director and principal author of the book. “The lumberyard was generally among the first businesses when a town was formed. Today, the independent lumberyard remains a critical part of any town or city’s economy.”

The book is available for sale; the price is $19, including postage and packaging. Bulk discounts are available. Contact Dunham for information.

Going forward, the WCLBMA at its meeting in Rancho Mirage, Calif., affirmed a second year as president for Dixieline’s Victor Fresca. Likewise, Mark Boone of Champion Lumber will continue as first vice president, as will Frank Addiego of All Bay Mill & Lumber as second vice president.

Chris Fleiner of Reno Lumber and Barret Burt of Ganahl Lumber will be dealer directors, while Augie Venezia of Fairfax Lumber & Hardware will remain government affairs chair.
