Beacon Roofing Supply, which had told investors earlier this week that it saw the potential of adding 200 to 300 more branches to its current 369-yard network, announced today it has acquired BJ Supply, a distributor of roofing and related building products based in Bristol, Pa., that serves the northeast Philadelphia market.
BJ Supply founder Joseph Pfluger will remain with the company. “Teaming-up with Beacon presented the best opportunity for our company to grow our business and introduce new product lines to our customers,” Pfluger said in a statement. “Beacon long has been a powerhouse in the Philadelphia suburbs, and we look forward to being able to bring Beacon’s greater product offerings to our customers and to complement Beacon’s existing area locations to more efficiently service customer needs.” Beacon already has six stores in the Philadelphia area, five of them carrying the Quality Roofing Supply name along with one Atlantic Building Products.

Herndon, Va.-based Beacon is the No. 4 company on the ProSales 100. The company announced that, powered by its acquisition of Roofing Supply Group (RSG) and more than a half-dozen other firms, it revealed its net profit jumped 53.9% to $47.4 million in its fiscal fourth quarter ended Sept. 30. That came on a 49.1% jump in sales to a quarterly record of $1.17 billion. Excluding acquisitions, sales rose 2.4%.
According to a presentation made by Beacon officials on Dec. 14 at its annual Investor Day in New York, Beacon has made 37 acquisitions since it went public in 2004, with eight of those acquisitions–including the huge deal with RSG–in the past year. While it’s known for its roofing, the company also sells siding, doors, gutters, windows, decking, railing, and columns.
