After initially announcing its three stores in Pennsylvania would close, due to stay-at-home order by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, Huttig Building Products announced the locations will remain open.
Last week, Gov. Wolf issued a mandatory shutdown of specialty contractors, residential construction building companies, nonresidential construction building companies, wood product manufacturing firms, and lumber and other construction wholesalers in the state. The order permitted building material and supply dealers to remain open.
Huttig, based in St. Louis, said after careful review, the company determined it is part of “an essential network engaged in warehousing and distribution of building materials and other suppliers for use in the construction industry and for sale in hardware and home improvement retailers.” Huttig said it would remain open for business and continue to make deliveries from its Lancaster, Pa., Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Latrobe, Pa., locations.
In addition to remaining open, Huttig has implemented several precautionary measures. The distributor has instructed outside sales team members, product specialists, administrative team members, inside sales employees, and buyers to work from home if possible. The company canceled all nonessential business travel and canceled external and internal gatherings, meetings, events, and trade shows of more than 10 people. Huttig also said all nonessential visitors will be prevented from entering branch locations.
