AD, which describes itself as North America’s largest contractor and industrial products wholesale buying group, announced May 1 its member sales rose 12% in the first quarter from the year-earlier period to total $9.7 billion.
AD’s more than 600 independently owned members cover all of North America count building materials as just one of seven industries they’re involved in; the others include electrical, industrial, plumbing, and HVAC. For the first quarter, building material sales rose 4% while electrical sales rose 10%.
Same-store sales in the U.S. grew 10%, Canada was up 9% and Mexico grew 10%.
Bill Weisberg, chairman and CEO of the Wayne, Pa.-based group, added that AD in the first quarter added 15 members and 17 suppliers and now handle 3 million SKUs.”
Member purchases from AD suppliers also rose by 12% from last year’s January-to-March period, but AD didn’t give a figure. Member purchases for all 2017 topped $1 billion, the group reported in April.
