Simpson Manufacturing’s 3Q Earnings Dip on Sales Gain

Wood-construction product sales decline as percentage of company revenues

Simpson Manufacturing, parent of fastener maker Simpson Strong-Tie, saw its bottom line drop one-third during the third quarter to $13 million on a 6% jump in revenues to $172.1 million, the company announced Thursday. The gains came primarily from businesses acquired since December 2011, accounting for $8.8 billion, alongside increases in volume most notable in North America. Wood-construction product sales (including connectors, truss plates, fastening systems, fasteners, and shearwalls) accounted for 85% of overall company sales during the period, down from 89% a year earlier.
