Greenville, N.C.-based Garris Evans Lumber recently celebrated its 100th business anniversary. Two brothers-in-law founded the company in eastern North Carolina in 1919 and the company is now owned by the fourth generation of the Evans family. The dealer has grown from a single location to five locations in Greenville, Jacksonville, New Bern, Shallotte, and Wilson, N.C.
To celebrate its 100th business anniversary, Garris Evans held an event at each of its five locations, inviting employees, area customers, vendors, and local officials. The history of how the company came into existence and the origin of each branch location was shared. To commemorate the occasion, Garris Lumber printed a 100 Year Anniversary book, which covers the history of the company.
When the company was founded, Garris Evans began as a saw mill and lumberyard, providing service to contractors, industry professionals, and owners. The company built affordable homes for several decades between the 1960’s and 1980’s. Garris Evans shut down its saw mill in 1975 and focused on being a building materials dealer. The company made its first expansion after 80 years in business, moving into Wilson, N.C.
Garris Evans ranked 79th on the 2019 ProSales 100 list, generating $68.8 million in sales in 2018. Ninety percent of the dealer’s 2018 sales came from pro customers.
