Expanding Options Vinyl siding manufacturers continue to expand their lines of foam-backed siding profiles and their collections of fade-resistant dark colors. More lines with traditional wood-style profiles like board-and-batten and scalloped shakes also continue to emerge. Here is a selection of the most recent introductions.

Backed by the insulating Performance Purple Solid Core foam backing, Crane Performance Siding’s CraneBoard Board & Batten vinyl siding features an architecturally correct appearance with a cedar-board texture, a double 10-inch panel design, and the maker’s Batten Mold finish trim. Each panel’s vertical nailing hem is covered by the adjacent batten, so panels lie flat and seams are hidden, the manufacturer says. The siding comes in 10-foot lengths and 17 colors. 800.366.8472. www.cranesiding.com.

Fade-resistant dark colors and realistic wood-look profiles are rounding out vinyl siding options.

Alcoa Home Exteriors’ Cedar Discovery siding now comes in a triple 5-inch shingle profile with a cedar texture in panels measuring 69½ inches long for a nearly seamless installation. A full side panel lock, which eliminates the need to caulk, works with the C-Lock continuous locking system along the panel’s top to provide secure installation. The Tornado-Tough nailing hem provides a stable anchoring surface able to withstand tornado-force winds, according to the company. 800.962.6973. www.alcoahomes.com..

Norandex Great Barrier and Reynolds Grand Junction vinyl siding lines from Norandex/Reynolds are now available in four darker colors: russet, steel blue, evergreen, and firebrick. The sidings’ PVC substrate is protected by ColorHold technology, an acrylic resin capstock that prevents white film from developing over time due to exposure to ultraviolet rays, air, and moisture. 800.528.0942. www.norandexreynolds.com.

Available in 16 colors, Pelican Bay polypropylene vinyl shakes, hand-split shakes, and scallops from Alside have a cedar texture that extends under the edge of the panel for a realistic look. The Pelican Bay line features a strengthening storm rail to withstand 160-mph winds. The LinkTite system secures each panel together for a seamless appearance. 800.922.6009. www.alside.com.

CertainTeed’s Board and Batten Vertical vinyl siding panels measure 8 inches wide with a 6½-inch-wide flat-face board span and a straight-edge batten that gives a realistic cedar look, the maker says. Panels are available in 10-foot lengths as well as 12-foot 6-inch lengths that can be used to create a smoother appearance with fewer seams, according to the manufacturer. Twelve colors are available. 800.233.8990. www.certainteed.com.

Combining the maker’s proprietary compound and process with a color-fast acrylic thermoplastic, Royal Building Products’ Colorscapes vinyl siding resists ultraviolet rays to maintain darker color tones and offers impact resistance in harsh weather conditions. Colorscapes siding comes in 13 colors and features a low-gloss wood-grain finish. A double-rolled nailing hem gives panels 180-mph wind resistance. 800.387.2789. www.royalbuildingproducts.com.

Injection-molded from polypropylene to simulate the appearance and texture of natural cedar shingles, Nailite’s RoughSawn Cedar EZ vinyl siding panels slide straight up, engaging the top locking clip and bottom locking rail to interlock with adjacent panels top to bottom, making installation faster and easier. Panels measure 59¼ inches long and 15 inches high. Eleven colors and matching corners are available. 888.300.0070. www.nailite.com.
