Some Green Insulation Poses Health Risks

Study finds flame retardants in spray-in foam and foam board create environmental health hazard

Spray-in foam and foam board are known for their top-notch insulating capabilities, but according to a new study, a few often-unnecessary additives are turning the products into environmental health hazards. Scientific American reports that many manufacturers are adding flame retardants HBCD and TCPP to their insulation products but that they aren’t yet required to show evidence that the product doesn’t contain harmful ingredients.
