Simonton Names New President; MSLBMDA Appoints New Officers; Do it Best Awards Members

Do it Best Awards Members Do it Best honored members with purchasing and service awards during the Member & Vendor Purchase Awards Breakfast at the 2003 Do it Best October Market in Indianapolis.

Hemmick Hardware of Van Buren, Ind., and Leo, Ind.–based Leo Builder Supply were recognized for 50-year memberships.

Thirty-six first and second place purchasing awards also were recognized in various categories. Amarillo, Texas–based Canyon Drive Lumber Co. received a first-place award for total purchases in a single store, and Christensen Lumber of Fremont, Neb., won first place for lumber purchases in a single store. In the multiple-store category, R.P. Lumber Co. of Staunton, Ill., won first place for total purchases and Phillips Lumber Do it center of Cedar Hill, Texas, took first place for lumber purchases.

The Fort Wayne, Ind.–based co-op (www.doitbest.com) has annual sales around $2.5 billion and has 4,200 member-retailers worldwide.

Simpson Mfg. Exec Joins California Administration Dublin, Calif.–based building products manufacturer Simpson Mfg. Co. announced the resignation of director Sunne Wright McPeak from the company’s board of directors. On November 12, McPeak was appointed by California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to serve as California’s Business, Transportation and Housing secretary.

“Sunne is knowledgeable in a number of distinct policy areas necessary to lead BT&H,” Schwarzenegger said in a statement. “Her work at the local and regional levels on transportation, housing, and business issues will bring valuable expertise to the new administration.”

McPeak was a member of the board’s Audit and Compensation Committees and has served since 1994. Simpson Mfg. Co. includes subsidiary Simpson Strong-Tie (www.strongtie.com), manufacturer of timber connectors and systems.

The Home Depot Contributes to SoCal Reforestation The Home Depot announced that it will contribute $1.2 million to help reforest areas of Southern California that were damaged by wildfires last fall. According to the company, the money will be used to support a long-term effort to replant trees and vegetation and to provide rebuilding support.

In addition, Home Depot locations in affected areas of Southern California are hosting free clinics for homeowners on fire cleanup and home repair, and seminars on “fire wise” landscaping.
