Recovery efforts have already begun in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Here’s the first roundup of what LBM firms are doing to help in South Texas.
* Johns Manville announced it will donate $50,000 to the American Red Cross Hurricane Harvey relief fund. The company also plans to match employee donations dollar-for-dollar to the same fund.
* Do it Best donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana in support of the charitable organization’s ongoing Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
* National Roofing Partners is supporting the SRS Raise the Roof Foundation, and has raised a total of $310,000 after one week. Donations still have one week to go.
* U.S. LBM is matching dollar-for-dollar donations made by associates to support disaster relief organizations. In total they have raised $34,000 ($68,000 with the Foundation match). Additionally, a team from Ridout Lumber in Arkansas delivered a tractor-trailer full of bottled water to Parker’s Building Supply last Friday in the city of Beaumont, which lost its water supply due to flooding.
* McCoy’s Building Supply has activated its Dennis P. McCoy Employee Crisis Fund, distributing clothing, food, and cash to needy team members. The employee-run non-profit is expected to spend over $100,000 in supporting the team. The firm additionally sent three trucks to the Houston area to bring food to employees. A special catering style truck was also sent to Aransas Pass to provide a fish fry meal to 500 team members and customers.
* Louisiana-Pacific Corporation is donating $1 million to support relief efforts in Texas, sending $500,000 to the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and the United Way of Greater Houston Relief fund and $500,000 in the form of LP building products for rebuilding efforts in affected areas. The firm will also match employee contributions.
* TAMKO Building Products has donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross.
* Niece Lumber in New Jersey is taking part in Operation Charmin, a collection effort to send diapers, toilet paper, tooth brushes, tooth paste and tarps to South Texas. They are also providing trucks and drivers to deliver the supplies.
* 84 Lumber donated over $100,000 in money and supplies to Mayor Turner’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, Team Rubicon, and JJ Watt’s Houston Flood Relief Fund.
* Spahn & Rose Lumber announced it will match twice the amount of donations they receive for The Salvation Army – Hurricane Harvey Relief (up to $10,000) through September 16, 2017.
* Andersen is providing $100,000 of windows and doors for the Houston Habitat for Humanity to help with rebuilding efforts. The company is additionally donating $50,000 to the Red Cross and pledging to match up to $25,000 in employee donations.
* Norbord is donating $1 million to the Home Builders Institute (HBI) to help with the rebuilding efforts in Texas and Florida.
* Lily Ann Cabinets sent a truck of supplies to Houston, Texas to assist in relief efforts. The supplies were mostly contributed by citizens of surrounding Lenawee County as part of the area’s Lenawee Helps Texas donation drive. The company opened up their warehouse for donations, paid for the delivery truck, and contributed some materials of their own.
* GEARWRENCH, Crescent, Wiss, and Lufkin donated $220,000 in tools to help rebuild communities impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. In addition, parent company Apex Tool Group donated the use of a 350,000 sq. ft. warehouse for two months to disaster relief nonprofit Trusted World as a sorting and staging headquarters for Harvey donations from around the country.
