Andy Toombs, a senior vice president of purchasing at forest products and building materials buying group Lumbermens Merchandising Corporation (LMC), is retiring from the company, effective April 30. The 39-year veteran joined LMC in 1981 as a plywood account specialist.
During his nearly four decades with the company, Toombs held various positions, including assistant buyer, senior buyer, product manager, department manager, purchasing manager of lumber, vice president of lumber division, and senior vice president of strategy development. Toombs was appointed as senior vice president of purchasing in 2017.
Toombs will be succeeded as SVP of purchasing by Sean Tighe, currently the vice president of the lumber division. Tighe has been with LMC for over two decades and served in various roles, including as a trader in both southern yellow pine and engineered wood, as department manager of Eastern/Western lumber, and as purchasing manager of Eastern/Western commodity lumber. LMC said Toombs will work closely with Tighe in the next several months to ensure a smooth transition.
“Sean’s experience along with his ability to lead and build key relationships makes him the perfect successor to Andy,” president and CEO John Somerville said in a prepared statement. “Both Andy and Sean embody our company culture of integrity, knowledge and hardworking talent providing value to our dealers every day.”
Wayne, Pa.-based LMC is owned by independent lumber and building materials dealers and has more than 1,400 dealer locations in the U.S. and the Bahamas.
