July 2:

  • A new company, Elco Building Supply, plans to hold its grand opening in Roswell, N.M., on Aug. 1. The store will focus on low-slope and specialty roofing, concrete accessories, and commercial construction. Much of its team was at Builders Do it Center in Rosewell before that store was sold to Foxworth-Galbraith.
  • ABC Supply has opened a new branch in the Seattle area, in Port Orchard, Wash. It’s the dealer’s seventh location in Washington state. Announcement

  • Hammond Lumber, the No. 36 ProSales 100 company, announced today its acquisition of EBS Building Supplies, also known as Ellsworth Builder Supplies, the No. 80 PS100 firm. Story

  • An unidentified lumberyard in northeastern Wisconsin has put itself up for sale. It took in $2.7 million last year, has 11 employees, and is asking $735,000. The roughly $400,000 in inventory comes separately. Details

  • Reno-Carson Lumber–which until recently called itself Reno Lumber–is slated to celebrate today the groundbreaking for a new facility in Carson City, Nev. The yard is expected to open in late summer 2019. Story
  • Trilantic North America and its co-investors have closed the previously announced sale of the installation and distribution business of United Subcontractors, a national provider of insulation installation and related services to builders, contractors and homeowners, to TopBuild Corp., the largest purchaser, installer and distributor of insulation products to the U.S. construction industry. It’s an all-cash deal valuing United Subcontractors at $475 million. Announcement
  • In 2017, Carter Lumber opened a new yard in Nashville, Tenn. (July), and two truss plants in Lansing, Mich. (March) and Hagerstown, Md. (November).
  • McCoy’s Building Supply opened a new location in Montgomery, Texas October 2017.
  • Harbin Lumber acquired Adams Building Supply in North Augusta, S.C., in March 2017.

  • Connecticut-based Kamco Supply Corp. is slated to occupy a 9.6-acre parcel in Rochester, N.Y., that changed hands recently. The new location represents a relocation and expansion of Kamco’s current Rochester facility. Story

  • Ohio’s Hartville Hardware, a 7-acre operation that bills itself as “America’s Largest Hardware Store,” is taking over 8,000 square feet of space in Tallmadge, Ohio, currently occupied by The Henry Beirce Co. and will open a Hartville Hardware branch there. Henry Beirce will keep the rest of its space and continue to operate as a masonry, tools, and hardscapes store. Story

  • The BMC Stock facility in Camarillo, Calif., was closed in January. Operations were moved to a new yard that opened that same month in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

  • An undisclosed building materials dealer in Fulton County, Ga., with $11.5 million in annual revenues has put itself up for sale. It’s asking for $2.8 million; that includes $1 million in inventory. Sale notice
  • An undisclosed Montana-based wholesale distributor of garage doors has put itself up for sale. The company has annual revenues of $1.9 million and is asking for just over $88,000. Sale notice

  • Rice Lumber is building a new, larger facility to take the place of its existing single location in Shelburne, Vt. It’s scheduled to be completed later this year. Story

  • GMS acquired the gypsum distribution operations of Grabber Construction Products in Concord, Calif., and of CMH Distributing in Kearney, Neb. Story
  • ABC Supply is said to be planning to have a facility at an industrial development project begin launched in East Orange, N.J. Story
  • ABC Supply has relocated its Medina, Ohio, store to a new location that’s four times larger location. Story
  • Tractor Supply has opened its 1,700th location, a store in Mocksville, N.C. It opened 101 new stores in 2017 and plans to open 80 more this year.

  • ABC Supply has decided to acquire a lease on a 39,646-square-foot warehouse at 4884 Duncanville Road in Dallas. Story
  • An unnamed 62-year-old LBM operation in Dauphin County, Pa., is advertising itself for sale. The firm claims gross revenue of $1.75 million and is selling $308,000 worth of inventory separately. Sale notice
  • Beisser Lumber has opened a new kitchen showroom just south of its yard in Grimes, Iowa.
