IKO has announced the official grand opening of its newest shingle production facility in Hillsboro, Texas. The plant’s ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on March 22, with local dignitaries and IKO customers in attendance.

The 250,000 square foot facility, which began producing product in late December, marks the completion of IKO’s manufacturing footprint in the United States. The Canadian company opened its first U.S. asphalt shingle plant in Wilmington, Delaware in 1981, and has since grown to serve the entire country with eight regional plants. The Hillsboro plant will serve and build upon IKO’s consumer base in the Southwest region.

“IKO has built more modern facilities and invested more in our technology in the past twenty years than anyone else in our industry,” says Keith Lowe, IKO’s vice president of sales in the United States. “We are proud of the effort and resources that we’ve invested in better serving our U.S. customers.”

Lowe says that the new facility is a vital component of the company’s long-term expansion plan, as well as a statement on IKO’s commitment to the U.S. market.

The Hillsboro plant will employ 65 local workers as it officially opens, with the possibility for future expansion. IKO’s next construction project is a new facility west of Toronto, Ontario, which will modernize IKO’s first plant in eastern Canada.
