Town initiates groundbreaking climate change study

Paid for by a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Hurricane Sandy Coastal Resiliency Competitive Grant, a comprehensive analysis comprises six elements.

Owner: Town of Swampscott, Mass.

Project: Integrated coastal resiliency and flood control plan to prepare for sea level rise, flooding from extreme rainfall, and storm surges in a community 15 miles north of Boston.

Contract includes: Developing inundation model to assess coastal and inland flooding, determining the most vulnerable infrastructure, developing recommendations to reduce risk, reviewing existing policies to promote climate change adaptation, recommending long-term adaptation strategies, public education, and outreach.
